Description:The tough, triangular leaves of this plant grow on thin green branches that split from a slender, woody trunk dotted with thick, green spines. The leaves possess a waxy layer that helps in conserving water. The most intriguing characteristic of this plant are its mottled red roots that protrude from the ground when the herb is ready to split. The offshoot is dark red in color and mottled with black-edged scales.
